Florianópolis, Brazil – The Island of Magic

May 5th, 2009

If there is a place in Brazil that you must not fail to know, that place is Florianópolis. The capital of Santa Catarina State, even with nearly 1 million inhabitants in its metropolitan area, has everything: from the super dense and populated region of the center and the continent, where they “blend” with the municipality of San José, by small “towns” as coastal Barra da Lagoa and Joaquina.

Yes, towns is a good word to define neighborhoods on the island of Florianopolis. Are all separate and with life itself. The distances are great, easy easy walk 60 or 70km to go to a neighborhood to another (so, take your car or rent one, preferably with free mileage. You run enough). But it is worth. The roads, often, even cross sections of native forest, hills with spectacular views and magnificent mansions.

When there, be sure to visit the mansions of the wonderful beach of Jurerê International, the dunes of Joaquina beach, instead of surfing competitions, the Costão Santinho the west side and Lagoa da Conceição. On the road between the city and Barra da Lagoa, several viewpoints Must!
