Many may not know, but Penedo, a district of the municipality of Itatiaia / RJ, has the largest, if not unique, Finnish colony of Brazil. It started at the end of the 1920s, when Toivo Uuskallio came to the “magic tropics” with his wife Liisa and three more boys, to work on Three Wells Farm, near Volta Redonda.

Uuskallio like both decided that the trip back to Finland to bring a group of people to form a colony in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Thus, in 1928, published the book “Matkalla kohta Tropiikin Taikaa” (In Travel in the direction of the Tropic Magic), about his impressions for the trip and starting a campaign to recruit volunteers and raise funds. The plan worked, and in 1929, Toivo has enough to buy the farm Penedo, in what was then the city of Resende / RJ.

It is estimated that around 300 immigrants arrived in the Finnish colony by the year 1940. They built houses along the Finnish and practiced architecture, basically, an agriculture of subsistence. Today, however, the basis of the district’s economy is tourism. For those who want to visit, there are excellent hotels and lodges there.

In the country of Ferrari and Lamborghini is a city where cars are no good for nothing. Venice, Italy, is a city built on the waters of Laguna Venetta, in northeast Italy, a place of shallow water and calm, perfect for the only available means of transport, the famous and charming gondolas.

And look to the city on water is not small! More than 260 thousand inhabitants living in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, classified by the historian Fernand Braudel as the first economic capital of capitalism!

Interesting that the Italians believe (and rightly) Venice the most beautiful city in the world. And, ironically, right next door, on the mainland, lies the town of Mestre, a city so ugly that the Italians call “the most ugly in the world.”

And if you like electronic music, the most famous DJs are always invited to play in the nightclubs.

If you are one of those who like to travel to the past, you will find Liechtenstein a fantastic place. Enclosured between Switzerland and Austria, this tiny kingdom is one of the countries with best quality life in Europe.

The medieval buildings make you feel like you were still in the gold period of kings, queens and emperors. Stay in fine hotels and see by yourself the hospitality of the people of this land which seems to be taken out from a history book.
